Halloween Events for Kids in Kansai (Osaka, Kyoto, Kobe) 2026

If you’re looking for something fun to do during Halloween with kids in Osaka, Kyoto, and Kobe, I’ve got you covered.
Over the years, Halloween has become increasingly popular in Japan, and thankfully, there are more and more kid-friendly events being held. In fact, even Daiso begins to sell its Halloween decorations and other goodies at the end of August!
In this article, I’ll share Halloween events in these three cities that are perfect for children. This is a list that I wish I had access to when my daughter was a toddler and first beginning to experience Halloween in Japan, so I figured I might as well share it with other parents!
2026 Halloween Events for Kids in Osaka
I’m going to start off with Halloween events in Osaka since I live here!
Universal Studios Japan
This is one of the best places to take your kids for some Halloween fun in Osaka. The park has Halloween decor throughout and if your kid says “Trick or Treat” to any of the cast members, they’ll get candy!
In 2026, USJ’s autumn event runs from September 10th to November 8th, while Halloween Horror Nights are held from September 11th to November 8th.
Zombies will show up from 6 pm, which can be scary for small children, but if your kids stay in Universal Wonderland, they’ll be okay. I’ve written an article all about visiting Universal Studios Japan during Halloween with kids, so please give it a read to find out more!

Legoland Osaka
Until October 31st, the Legoland Discovery Center in Osaka is holding a Halloween event called “Brick or Treat Monster Halloween Party”.
Kids can make jack-o’-lanterns out of LEGO blocks and get a free spooky LEGO figure from a gacha machine! They will also get a Halloween sticker and a paper mask.
I stumbled on this when I visited Legoland at the end of September with my daughter and it was a happy surprise for us both! And who doesn’t like freebies?
NAGAI Halloween Party
Nagai Park is holding a free Halloween event for families on October 10th, 2026 from 10 AM to 4 PM.
There will be Halloween games, workshops, dancing, and other activities. Kids can also find Halloween characters around the park and say “Trick or Treat!” to receive sweets.

Senshu Halloween Festival
This free Halloween event is held at SENNAN LONG PARK. It consists of a costume contest (you have to pre-register for this) and the first 100 kids (elementary school age and younger) in costumes will receive candy.
I went to this event two years ago and found it a little disappointing (hence I have no photos), but if you’re in the area, I think you might as well check it out.
Last year’s event included a huge 35-meter costume runway, a costume contest, Halloween crafts, face painting, DJ performances, and professional photos. It was free to enter, although advance registration was required if you wanted to take part in the costume runway.

Halloween Buffets in Osaka
Restaurants offering Halloween-themed buffets in Osaka include:
Port Dining RicoRico near Universal Studios Japan: The Halloween Fair runs from September 10th to November 8th, 2026. The dinner buffet has autumn dishes as well as cute Halloween sweets inspired by monsters and ghosts.
Park Front Hotel Buffet Dining Akala: The Halloween Buffet runs from September 11th to November 8th, 2026. There are around 40 dishes, including roast beef, autumn ingredients such as pumpkin and sweet potato, as well as Halloween-themed food and desserts.
E-POCH near Universal Studios Japan: The Halloween dinner buffet runs from September 1st to November 8th, 2026. There are lots of fun Halloween dishes, including black squid-ink mummy pasta, spiderweb pizza, Halloween sweets, and other autumn dishes.
Halloween Afternoon Tea in Osaka
I am a huge fan of Halloween and afternoon tea, so of course I always make sure to go to at least one Halloween-themed afternoon tea every year. The savory foods and desserts are so adorably spooky!
These usually book up fast, especially on weekends, so the earlier you can make a reservation, the better.
Depending on the age of your child, you may be able to share an afternoon tea set with them. Some restaurants and cafes also have special prices for kids.
Hotel Monterey Osaka: The Halloween Afternoon Tea runs from September 1st to October 31st, 2026, and costs 6,000 yen per person.
The desserts are very Halloween-y, with things like ghost tarts, black cat Mont Blanc, chocolate macarons, purple cassis mousse, and a black sesame dessert designed to look like a witch’s finger.
Reservations need to be made at least two days in advance.
Miyako City Osaka Tennoji: The Halloween Afternoon Tea runs from September 1st to October 31st, 2026, and costs 6,000 yen.
This one has more of a dark and slightly spooky Halloween theme, with jack-o’-lanterns, ghosts, Frankenstein, and a graveyard tea party. Some of the desserts are also made with red wine, so this is one I would check with the hotel about if you’re planning to take a young child.
Neighborhood Trick-or-Treating Event
If you grew up in North America like me, you may have fond childhood memories of Trick-or-Treating. This custom hasn’t quite caught on in Japan yet when it comes to going to houses in your neighborhood, but there’s nothing wrong with organizing your own event!
I started a Trick-or-Treating event in my neighborhood in Osaka, and it’s a hit! We have even more kids participating this year, and the local parents kept telling me how much they were looking forward to it.
In fact, one of our neighbors has older kids, so all they do is hand out candy, but the dad was so excited that he started planning his costume in August!
2026 Halloween Events for Kids in Kyoto
TOEI Kyoto Studio Park
If you want to introduce your children to supernatural beings in Japan, Toei Kyoto Studio Park is holding a Yokai Parade from mid-September to the beginning of December. For those who don’t know, yokai means demon in Japanese.
You can even dress up like yokai at certain times of the day!
I visited this event with my daughter, and the yokai parade was fun to watch, but it’s quite short and underwhelming. I wouldn’t go out of my way to see it unless you’ve never been to TOEI Kyoto Studio Park before.
My daughter did enjoy the various yokai she encountered throughout the park, although at age five, she was a little scared of some of them.

Cocomama Terrace Halloween Kids Event
This Halloween event for kids is held in Omiya Park. There is a costume parade, trick-or-treating, crafts, and other activities.
This year, it’ll be on October 24th and October 25.

Sanjokai Halloween Night
Sanjokai (near Nijo Castle) holds a Halloween event that consists of a sticker rally, games, as well as food and drink stalls. 2026’s event is TBA.

Machinaka Halloween
This event just for kids has a Halloween costume parade, crafts, stamp rally, and more!
This year’s event will be held on October 17th and October 24th near Nijo Castle. For more information, check out this website.
Kitayama Green Halloween
Kitayama Green Halloween will be held on October 25th, 2026 at the Garden of Fine Arts Kyoto.
There will be a market from 10 AM to 5 PM, followed by a candle night in the evening.
There is also a costume contest from 2 PM to 4 PM. You need to register in advance and pay to participate in the contest, although watching is free.
Unlike previous years, there will not be a Halloween parade in 2026.

Touin Halloween Festival
If your child wants to try carving a jack-o-lantern, Touin Halloween Festival is the place to be! There’s also sweet potato picking.
In 2026, the festival will be held on October 10th from 10 AM to 12 PM.
Making a pumpkin lantern costs 1,000 yen per pumpkin and is available on a first-come, first-served basis on the day.
The sweet potato digging costs 300 yen per plant and requires advance registration. Registration is open from August 20th to September 24th, 2026, although it may close early if all 100 spots are filled.

GRID KYOTO
GRID KYOTO will have several Halloween activities for kids on October 31st, 2026. The event will be held in front of Kyoto City Hall from 11 AM to 4 PM and is free to enter.
There will be workshops, food, stage performances, a Halloween costume contest, and trick-or-treating.

Halloween Buffets in Kyoto
Hilton Kyoto: Hilton Kyoto’s Chocolate Lover Forest sweets buffet runs from September 11th to November 3rd, 2026, but from October 19th it changes to a special Halloween version.
There are around 25 different types of chocolate used throughout the buffet, along with autumn flavors such as pumpkin, chestnut, grapes, and pears.
The buffet costs 5,800 yen for adults, 2,900 yen for children ages 6-11, and is free for children age five and under.
Rihga Royal Hotel Kyoto Halloween Buffet: This is a Halloween Sweets Lunch & Night Buffet from September 7th to October 31st, 2026.
The restaurant will be decorated for Halloween and there will be a Halloween photo spot as well as desserts inspired by ghosts, eyeballs, coffins, black cats, and other spooky things.
On weekends and holidays, children elementary school age and younger can also take part in a candy grab.
The lunch buffet starts at 4,800 yen for adults on weekdays, and preschool-aged children eat for free.
Halloween Afternoon Tea in Kyoto
The Westin Miyako Kyoto: The Halloween Afternoon Tea runs from October 1st to October 31st, 2026 and costs 7,500 yen.
There are 13 sweets and savory dishes using autumn ingredients such as chestnuts, pears, pumpkin, and purple sweet potato. Some of the cuter Halloween items include a ghost tart and pumpkin pudding.
Hotel Nikko Princess Kyoto Halloween Afternoon Tea: Their Dark Halloween Afternoon Tea is from September 16th to October 31st, 2026.
There are lots of fun Halloween-themed sweets, including a black cat pudding, skeleton muffin, witch’s chestnut pie, cross cookies, and a Halloween mousse.
The afternoon tea costs 3,900 yen, which is quite affordable for Kyoto. (Make sure to have a reservation in advance!)
Fauchon Hotel Kyoto Halloween Afternoon Tea: Fauchon Hotel Kyoto is holding a Gothic Lovely Halloween Afternoon Tea from October 1st to October 31st, 2026.
As the name suggests, this afternoon tea has more of a gothic Halloween look, with black, dark red, and pink sweets. Some of the desserts include Halloween macarons, pumpkin canelés, ghost marshmallows, a black roll cake decorated with bats, and a “bloody potion” grape jelly.
It costs 7,000 yen on weekdays and 7,500 yen on weekends and holidays. Reservations are required.
2026 Halloween Events for Kids in Kobe
Nunobiki Herb Garden
Personally, I think autumn is the perfect time to visit Nunobiki Herb Garden in Kobe. And from mid-September, they have Halloween decorations and real pumpkins! There are so many places throughout the garden to snap great photos.
KidZania Koshien
KidZania is a great place for kids to explore jobs through play, and during October, some of the jobs have a Halloween touch to them!
Kids can wear costumes as well and take part in a Halloween parade.
The KidZania Halloween 2026 event runs from October 1st to October 31st.

Rokko Island Halloween Festival
This Halloween event on Rokko Island in Kobe seems great for kids. It has Halloween bouncy equipment, Halloween booths, craft corners, trick-or-treating, food, and more! There’s a costume parade and contest as well!
The Rokko Island Halloween Festival will be held on October 24th and 25th, 2026 from 11 AM to 5 PM.
We attended last year and my daughter enjoyed all the candy she got, although I felt like it wasn’t worth traveling out of our way to attend. It was small and had summer festival vibes rather than Halloween. Personally, I preferred our neighborhood trick-or-treating event a lot more!

KOBE D51 Halloween Festival
The KOBE D51 Halloween Festival has a fun trick-or-treating event. Kids can follow a Halloween puzzle trail from Kobe Station towards the Motomachi area, stopping at places where they can receive sweets along the way.
There will also be workshops, a prize drawing, railway-themed activities, and the chance to take photos with the D51 steam locomotive.
This festival will be held near Kobe Station on October 31st, 2026 from 1 PM to 6 PM.

Anpanman Museum
For toddlers who love Anpanman, you may want to take them to the Anpanman Museum. From September 16th to October 31st, the museum will be having a special Halloween festival.
Kids can make Halloween Anpanman and Baikinman masks, take part in a Halloween sticker rally, and take photos at a special Halloween photo spot. There are Halloween-themed food and limited-edition goods in the shopping mall as well.
Awaji Kids Garden
If you’re looking for a Halloween event where your child can also spend some time using English, Awaji Kids Garden is holding a Halloween Day on October 10th, 11th, and 12th, 2026.

Halloween Buffets in Kobe
Kobe Portopia Hotel: The Family Dinner Buffet: Halloween Autumn Harvest Festival runs on weekends and holidays from September 19th to November 3rd, 2026.
There are lots of cute Halloween dishes and desserts, including ghost pumpkin bavarois, spiderweb pizza, Halloween cheeseburgers, Frankenstein matcha fudge, spiderweb brownies, and pumpkin sweet potato.
There’s also a nice perk for kids: elementary school-aged children and younger who come wearing a Halloween costume or Halloween item can take part in a candy grab.
Halloween Afternoon Tea in Kobe
Hotel Monterey Kobe: The Happy Halloween Afternoon Tea runs from September 16th to October 31st, 2026.
The afternoon tea costs 6,500 yen per person and includes a non-alcoholic cocktail. There is also a 7,000 yen version with alcoholic cocktails, so make sure you select the right one when booking with kids.
Where to Buy Halloween Candy in Japan
Halloween candy can be found at most grocery stores, Kaldi Coffee Farm, and Don Quijote from around September until the end of October.
Trick-or-treat buckets are sold at 100 yen stores in Japan.

Halloween costumes for kids can be found throughout Japan at Akachan Honpo, Babies R Us, Nishimatsuya, 3 COINS, Flying Tiger, and Don Quijote.
