From seasonal celebrations and kid-friendly exhibitions to fun weekend outings for the whole family, this guide brings together my personal picks for upcoming events in Osaka that are actually worth adding to your calendar
Note that event details are subject to change. Please check the official website before visiting. These events can also be very crowded, especially if it’s a one or two-day event, and on weekends and holidays.
Osaka Family-Friendly Events for Kids in 2026
HARUKAS WATER CANVAS: Water Play in the Sky
Dates: July 3, 2026 – September 30, 2026
This summer event combines water play and art approximately 300 meters above Osaka at the Harukas 300 observation deck. Children can cool down in an area with fountains and mist and draw pictures on a transparent dome while looking out at the sky. The activity is included with admission to the observation deck, although it may be cancelled during bad weather.
Children aged five and under can also enter Harukas 300 for free from July 23, 2026.
🎟️ Advance tickets are not required, although you will need an admission ticket for Harukas 300.
Midsummer Lantern Festival 2026
Dates: July 11, 2026 – September 13, 2026
This indoor summer event at Hirakata Park features illuminated lanterns, Japanese umbrellas, and jellyfish-themed decorations. Children can also try a short mystery-solving activity, draw on a lantern to carry around the venue and take home, or try a water fortune.
This could be a good option for an especially hot or rainy day, although you will still need to enter Hirakata Park to access the event.

🎟️ Advance tickets are not required. However, discounted combination tickets are available online, and lanterns may sell out.
TV Anime Detective Conan 30th Anniversary Exhibition
Dates: July 11, 2026 – August 16, 2026
This exhibition celebrates the 30th anniversary of the Detective Conan television anime and looks back at how the series has been made over the past three decades. It is likely to appeal most to school-age children, teenagers, and families who already watch the series.
Preschool-age children can enter for free when accompanied by an adult.
🎟️ Advance tickets are recommended because they are cheaper than tickets purchased on the day. However, advance tickets are not required except when otherwise stated by the organizer.
HANKYU Kids College
Dates: July 15, 2026 – August 11, 2026
HANKYU Kids College offers a wide variety of summer activities at Hankyu Umeda Main Store, including crafts, cooking, cultural activities, job experiences, and educational workshops. Activities are available for different age groups, from preschoolers to junior high school students.
The dates, prices, age limits, and availability vary depending on the individual program.
🎟️ Advance reservations are required for many activities, although there are also some activities that children can join without a reservation.
The Great Extinction Exhibition: Mass Extinctions — BIG FIVE
Dates: July 17, 2026 – October 12, 2026
This large-scale exhibition at the Osaka Museum of Natural History explores the five major mass-extinction events that changed life on Earth. Visitors can see fossils and other specimens, learn about the extinction of dinosaurs, and find out how life continued to evolve following each extinction event.
The exhibition also includes a large spherical video display, fossils and specimens from Japan and overseas, and research from excavations in Morocco. This looks like an especially good option for children who are interested in dinosaurs, fossils, and science.
I know I’ll be taking my daughter there this summer!
🎟️ Advance tickets are not required. However, purchasing tickets online may save time, especially on weekends and holidays.
All Super Sentai Exhibition
Dates: July 18, 2026 – September 27, 2026
This exhibition celebrates 50 years of Super Sentai (Power Rangers) and is likely to be popular with both children and parents who grew up watching the series.
The exhibition is held in Hirakata Park’s Event Hall, but the hall is located outside the amusement park. This means you can purchase a ticket for the exhibition without also paying to enter Hirakata Park.

Sunflower Festa at Expo ’70 Commemorative Park
Dates: July 18, 2026 – August 2, 2026
Approximately 3,000 sunflowers will be on display in two areas of Expo ’70 Commemorative Park. The event is being held on a smaller scale than usual because its regular location is undergoing renovations.
On July 19 and 26, families can also watch a large ice sculpture being made and play in artificial snow beside the sunflower field.

🎟️ Advance tickets are not required for the sunflower event. However, the optional professional photography sessions require advance reservations.
Expo ’70 Commemorative Park Summer Festival 2026
Dates: Selected dates from July 24, 2026 – September 23, 2026
Expo ’70 Commemorative Park is holding a large evening summer festival on selected Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. The event includes illuminations around the Tower of the Sun, food stalls, traditional festival games, music, and an area where families can enjoy handheld fireworks.
Since the festival does not take place every day, make sure to check the official calendar before visiting.
I will say that I’ve been to this summer festival and it was disappointing. I wouldn’t go out of my way to attend.
🎟️ Advance tickets are not required, although advance tickets are slightly cheaper. Reserved seating must be booked in advance.
Night at NIFREL
Dates: July 24–26, July 31–August 7, and August 17–23, 2026
This limited nighttime event allows visitors to explore NIFREL (located near Expo 70 Commemorative Park) after its regular closing time. The background music is turned off, and the lighting is lowered, making it easier to notice how the animals behave at night.
Visitors can also see nighttime-only displays and observe nocturnal animals that are not normally very active during the day.
🎟️ Advance tickets are required. A special ticket for the nighttime event must be purchased online, and a regular daytime ticket cannot be used to re-enter NIFREL in the evening.
Kids Plaza Osaka Ninja Adventure: Summer Campaign
Dates: July 25, 2026 – August 23, 2026
Kids Plaza Osaka is holding a ninja-themed summer event where children can try ninja training activities, explore a maze filled with tricks, and make an original bag using ninja stamps.
The schedules, age limits, capacity, and participation fees vary depending on the activity. Some activities are free, while others cost up to 500 yen in addition to the regular Kids Plaza Osaka admission fee.

Railway Model Festival 2026
Dates: July 29, 2026 – August 10, 2026
Train-loving children may enjoy this annual railway model festival at Hankyu Umeda Main Store. The event features detailed railway dioramas, model train displays, simulator experiences, workshops, and talks.
Preschool-age children can enter for free with an accompanying adult. However, some workshops and simulator activities require an additional fee.
🎟️ Advance admission tickets are not required, although they are slightly cheaper than tickets purchased on the day. Some workshops and simulator experiences require separate advance reservations.
Summer Vacation Mini Weather Station 2026
Dates: July 30–31, 2026
The Osaka Regional Headquarters of the Japan Meteorological Agency is bringing weather and earthquake-related experiments to the Osaka Science Museum.
Children can see equipment used to measure rain and wind, take part in experiments, and learn more about weather, earthquakes, and how these natural phenomena are observed.
🎟️ Advance tickets are not required. The event is free, and visitors can go directly to the venue on the day.
Splash Beat at Hirakata Park
Dates: Saturdays and Sundays from August 1, 2026 – September 6, 2026, as well as every day from August 10–14, 2026
This short outdoor show at Hirakata Park features music, dancing, water cannons, and a water-pistol battle. Visitors in the audience should expect to get completely soaked, so bringing a change of clothes is a good idea.
You can bring your own water pistol or participate without one. Water pistols will also be available to purchase while supplies last.

Osaka Station City Kids Week
Dates: August 3–7 and August 17–21, 2026
Elementary-school children can apply for real job experiences around Osaka Station City. Programs include working as an Osaka Station employee and trying jobs at shops, restaurants, cafés, and other businesses around the station complex.
The age limits, dates, participation fees, and number of available spaces vary depending on the program.
🎟️ Advance applications are required. Applications close at 11:59 PM on July 20, 2026, and participants will be selected by lottery.
Science Festa 2026
Dates: August 15–16, 2026
This free family science event includes experiments, craft activities, talks, and large outdoor demonstrations presented by schools, universities, businesses, and other organizations.
The event is suitable for a wide range of ages, from small children to adults. Note that although the event is listed by the Osaka Science Museum, it will be held at Osaka Kyoiku University’s Tennoji Campus rather than at the museum.
🎟️ Advance tickets are not required. Visitors can go directly to the venue on the day.
Detective Conan Cafe
Dates: April 10, 2026 – May 17, 2026; May 20, 2026 – August 2, 2026
This limited-time themed café celebrates the latest Detective Conan movie with a nostalgic “Port Town Retro” concept, character-themed food, and exclusive merchandise. It looks like a fun pick for Conan fans and families with older kids who enjoy anime-themed dining experiences.
