Visiting Okinawa with kids and wondering where your family should stay?

I’ve been to Okinawa several times, both with and without kids, so I thought I would share my recommended resorts and hotels I’ve stayed at with my family, as well as those that I want to stay at on our next trip.

Where I Stayed in Okinawa with Kids

When it comes to where to stay in Okinawa, it all boils down to what you want to do while on the island. Personally, we love enjoying pools and also being within walking distance of the ocean, so this article reflects that.

For those who don’t care too much about resort-like comforts, I’ve also included centrally located hotels for those who want to explore but don’t have a car.

Below are resorts and hotels in Okinawa I have stayed at with my family or my friends have and would recommend to other parents. Many of these are located on the west side of the island, which is closest to beautiful beaches and attractions.

Hotel Monterey Okinawa Spa & Resort

Why stay at Hotel Monterey Okinawa?
  • Located right on the beach
  • Several kid-friendly pools, including a wave pool that my daughter loved
  • Touch pool with sea creatures near the pool area
  • Indoor play area
  • Very convenient location

My family stayed at Hotel Monterey Okinawa when my daughter was three years old. We chose this resort because we wanted to relax during our trip and didn’t want to rent a car. We spent two nights and three days at this hotel, and everyone had a wonderful time!

There are lots of great restaurants within walking distance of the hotel as well. Honestly, after staying at other resorts and hotels in Okinawa, I’ve decided that Hotel Monterey Okinawa is my favorite, and I want to stay here again for our next trip, and my husband agrees. My daughter is also old enough now to enjoy the Bubble Hill Pool!

I wrote an article all about our stay at Hotel Monterey Okinawa, so if you want to know more, please give it a read.

Ryukyu Hotel & Resort Nashiro Beach

Why stay at Ryukyu Hotel & Resort Nashiro Beach?
  • 5-Star Hotel
  • Located right on the beach
  • Kid-friendly pools, including one with a little water playground, and a flowing pool

Our two-night stay at Ryukyu Hotel & Resort Nashiro Beach was amazing. As mentioned before, this is a new hotel that just opened three years ago.

Out of all the resorts we’ve stayed at in Okinawa, this had the best pools for young kids, hands-down. My six-year-old daughter absolutely loved the flowing pool and refused to get out!

I also liked that you could eat next to the pool, which I guess is both a good and a bad thing because if someone is messy, they can dirty the pool (didn’t happen while we were there, though).

They offer amenities for kids as well that include a toothbrush, slippers, and pajamas.

However, note that this is located on the southern part of the main island, making it far from popular attractions and sightseeing spots in Okinawa. I would only recommend staying here if you want to stay mainly at the resort (which is what we did), since it’ll be quite the drive to get to certain popular attractions. For instance, it takes almost two hours one-way to get to Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium!

Oriental Hotel Resort & Spa

Oriental Hotel Resort and Spa in Okinawa

Why stay at Oriental Hotel Resort & Spa?
  • Spacious rooms
  • Hot tubs have beautiful ocean views
  • Swim-up bar
  • Two restaurants, including one Japanese-style buffet breakfast with all-you-can-eat tuna
  • Central location in Okinawa’s main island

We stayed at Oriental Hotel Resort & Spa for two nights and loved the location, which was very close to aquariums and great restaurants. It’s a great base if you want to explore the northern side of the island. I especially loved the room, it was massive and felt super luxurious!

They provided amenities for our daughter, such as a toothbrush, slippers, and pajamas.

I think this is a good hotel if you have older children, so perhaps ages six and up. There is an indoor playroom, but I felt the pools were lacking for younger kids compared to Hotel Monterey Okinawa and Ryukyu Hotel & Resort Nashiro Beach.

Kafuu Resort Fuchaku Condo Hotel

Kafuu Hotel Okinawa

Why stay at Kafuu Resort Fuchaku Condo Hotel?
  • Large rooms with a kitchenette (but no pots or dishes!)
  • Rooms have stunning ocean views
  • Convenient location and walking distance to the beach
  • Affordable

🏨 Check availability

I have mixed feelings about Kafuu Resort Fuchaku Condo Hotel, but I’m including it here because it’s affordable for what you get, so it’s great for budget-friendly travelers.

I love how big the rooms are and the view from our room was spectacular. It’s in an excellent location as well, and you can easily walk to the beach as well as many restaurants. Some restaurants even offer tuk-tuk rides for free back to the hotel!

The pools also have stunning ocean views, some of the best I’ve seen out of the hotels I’ve stayed at so far. Our daughter was given PJs and amenities, too.

However, despite that they say they’re a five-star hotel, I really didn’t get that impression. It felt more 3-star to me.

Would I stay here again? Yes, if the price is right and I don’t feel like splurging on Hotel Monterey Okinawa, I absolutely would.

  • Convenient location and right on the beach
  • Very affordable

My friend stayed at Rizzan Sea Park Hotel with her family and liked it, and one of her coworkers is getting married there soon!

It’s super affordable and in a great, central location in Okinawa, making it a perfect base for exploring the island. It has a pool as well with ocean views.

According to my friend:

The view from the room was genuinely beautiful. The beach was lovely too, with clearly marked-off areas for swimming.

Inside the hotel, there were a few small shops selling the usual souvenirs. Nothing overly curated, but enough if you wanted to bring something back.

They also offered a few crafts and activities that you could sign up for, though they weren’t included in the stay, so you would have to pay extra.

You could rent swimwear, which felt unexpected but convenient. And there’s an indoor pool as well, if you’re not in the mood for the beach.

Family-Friendly Okinawa Resorts I’d Love to Stay At

Here are the resorts and hotels that are on my family’s wishlist for our next Okinawa trip.

The Orion Hotel Motobu Resort and Spa

The Orion Hotel Motobu Resort and Spa is on our “want to stay at” lists. For my husband, it’s because he loves Okinawa’s Orion beer so much that he wants to stay at their signature hotel!

For me, it’s because of its spacious ocean-view rooms, excellent location on the north end of Okinawa’s main island (which I want to explore more), and beautiful infinity pool.

For kids’ amenities, they offer pajamas in four sizes, toothbrushes, and slippers. There’s also a shop in the hotel that sells diapers, formula, and baby food.

Halekulani Okinawa

We stayed at Halekulani in Honolulu for a week and loved it so much, which is why we really want to try to stay at their Okinawa resort. It’s truly luxurious, their restaurants are fantastic, and our daughter enjoyed the hotel so much that she keeps asking to go back!

Halekulani Okinawa is located right on the beach and you can see coral reefs, which would delight fish-obsessed kids like my daughter. There are several pools, including a kids pool, although I will admit that it doesn’t look as fun for little kids as Ryukyu Hotel & Resort Nashiro Beach.

For young children, they provide cribs, bed guards, bedwetting pads, diaper bins, baby chairs, high chairs, baby bath soap, toilet training potties and seats, step-stools and strollers, and more.

The Busena Terrace

We loved visiting Busena during our Okinawa trip, so we’re considering staying at The Busena Terrace in the future. The rooms are spacious, they have a private beach (and having been to the beach there, it is among the best in this list), and the pool overlooks the ocean.

They have an indoor playroom for children as well, and pajamas for kids (size 130 cm).

If you have a baby, they offer free rental strollers, cribs, and bed guards.

Sheraton Okinawa Sunmarina Resort

It rains often in Okinawa, which is why I think Sheraton Okinawa is a great resort when it comes to indoor activities for kids because they have plenty! I’m talking indoor playgrounds, video games, a light show, table tennis, and even a virtual reality station!

Beyond that, they have two huge water slides that look like they belong in a water park (kids need to be at least 120 cm tall to ride), and zip lining! The hotel is also located on the beach, so you can swim and snorkel as well.

When it comes to amenities, they offer pajamas in two sizes for kids (starting from 100 cm), toothbrushes, and slippers.

For those with babies and toddlers, they have cribs, baby baths, strollers, step stools, baby chairs, and potty rings.

I think it’s quite affordable for everything you get.
