Due to its close location to my home, Osaka Itami Airport is my family’s choice when it comes to domestic flights. So, needless to say, we’ve been to the airport countless times, and not only when we’re traveling. In fact, I’ve had several playdates with my child and her friends at Osaka Itami Airport!
This is why I thought I would share my favorite kid-friendly spots in the airport, which you can explore with your kids (whether you’re taking a flight or not).
The Best Things to Do with Kids, Toddlers, and Babies at Itami Airport
Bornelund Asobinosekai
I love the Bornelund in Osaka Station, but I appreciated the one in Itami Airport more because it’s far less busy (likely due to its location).
This playground is mainly indoors and caters to babies, toddlers, preschoolers, and kids in elementary school. My daughter and I had a playdate here with a neighbor of mine who has a one-year-old, and we all had a great time.
There’s plenty to do, from pretend grocery shopping to athletics and even crafts, as well as a dedicated space for babies.
I also like the outdoor area where my daughter enjoyed riding on different kinds of bikes.
This playground is open from 10 AM to 6 PM daily (last entry is at 5:30 PM).
Observation Deck with Splashpad
This is a great place to watch planes take off while enjoying a nice drink from the nearby Tully’s Coffee Shop.
In summer, the deck has a splashpad where kids can cool off as well.
Sorayan no Oniwa
This is a small garden that features Sorayan, Itami Airport’s adorable mascot. My daughter always makes sure to take a photo with him whenever she sees him.
Itami Sky Park
If you’re willing to take a bus from Itami Airport for a quick 3-minute ride, consider checking out Itami Sky Park. This is another place where kids can watch airplanes take off, but the best part is the massive outdoor playground where they can burn off energy.
If you have a car, it’s only a 7-minute drive from Itami Airport.
Where to Eat at Itami Airport with Kids
When it comes to dining at Itami Airport, there are countless options.
Personally, we love going to 551 Horai, which is a very famous restaurant from Osaka that specializes in Chinese food. In fact, you’ll see many people lined up at their takeaway shop in Itami Airport. You can grab one of their renowned pork buns (my daughter’s favorite) from there and enjoy it on the Observation Deck, but I recommend their sit-down restaurant.
MIMIU is another favorite of ours as it serves delicious udon noodle bowls that are beloved by my daughter. It’s also easy to share a bowl with kids.
