Wondering if you should stay at the Disney Ambassador Hotel when visiting Tokyo Disney Resort?

We stayed for two nights at the Disney Ambassador Hotel, an official Tokyo Disney hotel and one of the more affordable options, and honestly, I went in with pretty low expectations.

It wasn’t my first choice. Since you need to take a 10-minute shuttle bus from the hotel to both Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea, I assumed it would feel a little more inconvenient compared to staying at an official Disney hotel closer to the parks. But because we were arriving late and the Disney Ambassador Hotel was much more budget-friendly than the other Tokyo Disney hotels, it felt like the most practical option.

And I’m so glad we gave it a chance.

In this honest review, I’ll share my honest thoughts about what it was like to stay at the Disney Ambassador Hotel with my family. Hopefully by the end, you’ll have an idea about whether or not you want to stay there as well.

(Spoiler alert: The Disney Ambassador Hotel ended up being charming, clean, full of Disney details, and much more convenient than I expected. It has that nostalgic Disney magic without the same painful price tag as some of the other official hotels.)

Getting to the Disney Ambassador Hotel

I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the Disney Ambassador Hotel is connected to IKSPIARI, a shopping mall right next to Maihama Station, which is the closest train station to the Tokyo Disney Resort Line.

This meant it was super easy to get to the hotel from central Tokyo, which was a relief because we were really exhausted when we arrived at 7 PM.

We had a quick dinner at Monsoon Cafe, a restaurant specializing in cuisine from countries like Thailand and Indonesia. I think this is my go-to because my husband told me we had dined there before a few years back, and I just didn’t remember.

They don’t have any kids’ meals, but we shared chicken skewers and fried rice with our daughter, and she was happy.

First Impressions of the Disney Ambassador Hotel

When we were done eating, we headed to the Disney Ambassador Hotel.

I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the hotel was really lovely. The decor was fantastic, especially the plane on the ceiling, and everything was clean. Nothing felt run-down or old.

The lobby has a gorgeous retro Disney feel, with warm lighting, tall columns, Art Deco-style touches, and fun Disney details. I especially loved the gold Mickey statue with the movie camera. It immediately made the hotel feel special without being over the top.

Just like other official Disney hotels, there was also a little seating area for kids with a television showing a Disney movie.

Not pictured is the seating area in the lobby because it was full of (tired) people and I want to protect their privacy.

Check-In and Heading to Our Room

My husband had already checked in earlier and gotten our tickets for Tokyo DisneySea and Tokyo Disneyland, as well as our Happy Entry passes for Tokyo Disneyland. Happy Entry allows you to use a special lane to get inside Tokyo Disneyland 15 minutes earlier than other guests, and trust me when I say it makes a huge difference.

DisneySea Happy Entry would only be available in summer and, unfortunately, we were visiting in spring, so we only had Happy Entry for Tokyo Disneyland.

The elevators were plentiful, so when we headed to our room, we barely even waited before one arrived. This was consistent throughout our two-night stay, which was really nice after long park days. And although there were lots of guests, we hardly ever shared an elevator with anyone.

The hallways were also spacious and clean, with cute Mickey designs.

Our Standard Twin Room

We stayed in a standard twin room that had two semi-double beds.

My first thought when I stepped into the room was how much I loved the nostalgic, 1930s classic movie style. There were old-style Mickey artwork hanging and cute Mickey motifs on the wallpaper and the beautiful couch.

Needless to say, my daughter loved the room and literally squealed when she saw it. She then proceeded to sprawl on the couch.

Considering the Disney Ambassador Hotel is a more affordable official Disney hotel, I was surprised to find that the room had similar vibes to the Tokyo Disney Fantasy Springs Hotel, where we had stayed during another Disney trip.

The room wasn’t as large, but just like the Fantasy Springs Hotel, there was a couch, a TV, a small table and chairs, a mini-fridge, a closet area, and a spacious bathroom setup. And if we needed something, we could order it through the TV.

We also got cute reusable bags and plenty of amenities that we could use and take home with us, such as cups, washcloths, and toothbrushes. They replaced these on the second night of our stay, too, so we got double. They also had slippers and pajamas for all three of us.

The mini-fridge had four bottles of water, and those were also refreshed during our stay.

The room comes with a kettle, glasses, cups, as well as tea and coffee:

I also liked that there was space to put our suitcases (we had two carry-on-sized ones) and a luggage rack (not pictured).

The Beds and Sleep Quality

The beds were fairly average. Nothing fancy, and we found them a tad bit hard.

The pillows were also not the most comfortable and felt cheap. But I can’t complain too much because I guess you get what you pay for!

There was a pull-out bed underneath one of the beds, which we were free to use, but my daughter wanted to sleep next to her father. Since she was six years old, they were able to share the bed perfectly.

The view from the room wasn’t great. We were on the third floor facing the street, so we could hear cars and people outside. So, needless to say, it was a little noisy, especially in the morning. We could hear people heading for Disney at 6 AM!

That didn’t really bother us because we were also waking up early for the parks, but if you’re hoping to sleep in, I’d try to request a quieter room. I think a Palm Garden View Room might be a better option since it faces the outdoor pool area, although the pool is only open in summer.

Bathroom Review

The bathroom layout was one of the best parts of the room.

I loved that the toilet was separated from the bath. This makes such a difference when you’re traveling as a family because one person can use the toilet while someone else is getting ready or taking a bath. The door also had a picture of the mop from Fantasia, which I absolutely loved.

The washlet was a little bit dated, though, but it wasn’t a big deal.

The bath area was spacious, with a proper tub and washing area. . My family made sure to use the bath bomb we got in the tub on the day after our visit to Tokyo DisneySea so that we could relax our tired bodies.

My only complaint was the sink. It looked a little old and had some stains around the faucet handles that couldn’t be removed. I also didn’t like that there were two faucet handles, one for hot water and one for cold, rather than just one for both.

I get that the Disney Ambassador Hotel is meant to have a classic vibe, but they could at least update the handles!

The hairdryer wasn’t very good either, it was too weak so it took ages to dry my hair.

Shops and Facilities at the Disney Ambassador Hotel

On the first floor of the hotel, they have a gift shop called Festival Disney, which we definitely checked out more than once.

There’s a special Disney Ambassador Hotel travel bag you can purchase from here. Although I liked the look of it, I decided not to get it because I have way too many bags.

I liked that they carried some special event goods, which I bought for my daughter so she was ready for her Disney visit.

Other facilities located at the Disney Ambassador Hotel include Chip ’n Dale’s Playground, which can be used by guests who booked this plan when making their hotel reservation.

We didn’t book this because we would be checking in late. But if we had been able to arrive at the hotel earlier, such as around 1 PM, I’m sure my daughter would have loved to experience this, especially since she would get to stay in a Chip and Dale-themed room and meet Chip and Dale.

There’s a Baby Care room right next to this playground that anyone can use at anytime to change diapers, heat up food, heat up water for formula, etc.

There is also an Ambassador Lounge on the first floor for guests who are staying in the Minnie Mouse Room.

Food Options at the Disney Ambassador Hotel

There are several food options at the Disney Ambassador Hotel.

Chef Mickey is probably the most famous because you can meet Mickey during breakfast, but it needs to be reserved in advance.

There’s also Empire Grill, which I kind of wish we had tried instead of eating at Monsoon, and Tick Tock Diner, which is a good option for breakfast pastries and sandwiches.

The hotel also has a convenience store called Sunset Sundries, where you can buy food and drinks. We bought bread for breakfast there at night and ate it the next morning while waiting in line for Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea to open.

Getting to Tokyo DisneySea and Tokyo Disneyland

Transportation was one of the things I worried about most before staying here, but it ended up being very easy.

The bus stops for both Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea are right in front of the hotel. The buses run about every ten minutes and take around ten minutes to reach the parks.

Make sure to line up at the right place! There are signs for the shuttle bus for DisneySea and the one for Disneyland. The bus stop for DisneySea is closest to the hotel.

There were always seats available when we rode, and I loved the retro look of some of the buses.

The bus drops you off right in front of the entrances for the Tokyo Disney parks, so there’s little to no walking involved. It’s all super easy.

Getting back to the hotel is easy as well, although you need to be lined up at the correct place to get on the bus. They will also not pick you up if you try to get on after they close the door.

Happy Entry Benefits

One of the big reasons we stayed at the Disney Ambassador Hotel was that we could use Happy Entry for Tokyo Disneyland.

At the time of our spring visit, Happy Entry for Tokyo DisneySea was only available in summer, so we could only use it for Disneyland.

This was a major perk and part of what made the hotel feel worth it. If you’re trying to get into the parks early, especially with kids, staying at an official hotel can make the morning feel much easier.

If you’re still planning your Disney trip, make sure to read my Tokyo Disney tips that every guest should know before they visit, based on my many years of visiting the park.

What We Loved about the Disney Ambassador Hotel

The Disney Ambassador Hotel really surprised me.

I loved the lobby decor, the retro Disney theme, the cleanliness, the ease of getting there from Tokyo, and the easy bus transportation to the parks. The room had plenty of cute, classic Mickey details, and the bathroom setup was great for my family.

I also appreciated the convenience store, the hotel shop, the free water, and the take-home amenities.

For the price, it felt like a very good value compared to other Tokyo Disney hotels.

What We Didn’t Love

The biggest downsides were the bed comfort and the noise.

The beds were a little hard, and the pillows weren’t great. If you’re picky about hotel bedding, this may bother you.

Our room also faced the street, so we could hear cars and people outside, especially early in the morning. Since we were getting up early for Disney anyway, it wasn’t a huge issue, but I wouldn’t choose this hotel if my main goal were sleeping in and having a peaceful, quiet morning.

The sink area also felt slightly dated and could use a small update.

So, Is the Disney Ambassador Hotel Worth It?

Yes, I think the Disney Ambassador Hotel is worth it, especially if you want an official Tokyo Disney hotel at a more reasonable price.

It has plenty of Disney magic, a beautiful retro theme, easy transportation to the parks, and is within walking distance to IKSPIARI and Maihama Station. It’s not the fanciest Disney hotel, and the beds could definitely be better, but for the price, I was genuinely impressed.

I had low expectations going in, but I would absolutely stay here again.

My daughter loved it too, and we’re already interested in coming back during the summer so we can try the pool.

Who Should Stay at the Disney Ambassador Hotel?

The Disney Ambassador Hotel is a good fit for families, Disney fans, and anyone who wants an official Tokyo Disney hotel without paying top-tier prices.

It’s especially worth considering if you want Happy Entry, easy access to IKSPIARI, and convenient bus transportation to both Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea.

It may not be the best choice if you’re sensitive to noise, want the most luxurious bedding, or prefer to be within walking distance of the parks.

My Final Thoughts

The Disney Ambassador Hotel wasn’t originally my first choice, but it ended up being much better than I expected.

It felt clean, charming, convenient, and full of classic Disney touches. While it isn’t perfect, the value is excellent compared to other Tokyo Disney hotels, and the bus situation was far easier than I imagined.

I would stay here again, especially if it meant we could visit Tokyo Disney more often without feeling quite so guilty about the hotel cost.
