Best Hotels in Fukuoka for Families of 5 or More

As one of the largest cities in Japan, one would think it would be fairly easy to find a hotel for a large family in Fukuoka. There are hotels everywhere, the airport is ridiculously close to the city center, and popular central neighborhoods with tourist attractions, such as Hakata, Nakasu, and Tenjin, are all relatively close to one another.
However, many of Fukuoka’s city-center hotels are geared toward business travelers and couples, and in my experience, looking for family-friendly hotels that can accommodate five or more people together is surprisingly challenging.
So to help other travelers who might want to save time searching for themselves, I’ve compiled a list of hotels in Fukuoka that work for big families. This includes hotels that I have personally stayed at with my family as well.
Does It Matter Whether You Stay in Hakata or Tenjin?
Not as much as it does in some other Japanese cities.
Hakata Station makes sense if you’re arriving by Shinkansen, taking day trips around Kyushu, or simply want getting in and out of Fukuoka to be as easy as possible. We stayed in this area and found it was super convenient, not to mention it felt safe and clean compared to Tenjin.
Tenjin has lots of shopping and restaurants, and the evening atmosphere is fairly lively.
Then there’s Nakasu-Kawabata, which sits between the two. It’s only a few minutes by subway from both Hakata and Tenjin, and you can walk to Canal City and around Nakasu.
Fukuoka isn’t enormous, so if staying ten minutes farther away from a central area gives your family a much larger room, I think it’s worth it. This is what we did, although personally, I liked staying closer to JR Hakata Station.
Also note that Fukuoka is a very bus-focused city rather than train-focused. When we visited, we mainly took buses around the city, although sometimes we used taxis. We rarely used the train.
Where to Stay with Big Families in Fukuoka
HOTEL All Stay Hakata Kukodori
Sleeps: Up to 11 depending on the room
Best for: Larger families who want lots of space, a kitchen, and an in-room washing machine near Hakata Station
Nearest station: Hakata Station, around 12-15 minutes on foot
To Hakata Station: Around 12-15 minutes on foot
I’m going to start off with a hotel we stayed at during our trip to Fukuoka — HOTEL All Stay Hakata Kukodori.
We found the location was good enough for us to get around the city, and since it’s in a residential area, we found it was quiet. The hotel is a renovated apartment, so the rooms feel like a home away from home. There’s a kitchen as well as a washing machine (although there were no laundry clips we could use to dry our laundry, which was a shame. If you’re staying here and want to do laundry, pop by the Daiso or Seria 100 yen shops at Hakata Station and buy one).
Note that this hotel is unmanned, meaning there is no front desk with someone there to help you out. So don’t expect to keep your luggage here! You also need to check in via a multilingual tablet. We had no trouble with this, though. There’s also a screen in the room after you check in from which you can ask for help if you need it.
There are several room types that can accommodate five or more people. The Superior Triple Room has three double beds and sleeps up to six, while the Studio Apartment has four double beds and accommodates up to eight. For an especially large family, the 71-square-meter Superior Apartment has five double beds and one single bed and accommodates up to 11 people.
We stayed in the Superior Triple Room, and the beds had no bedframe, which made sleeping there a little uncomfortable. I also didn’t like the tatami area the beds were on, as the tatami was stained. However, the beds in the Superior Apartment and Studio Apartment thankfully have bedframes and no tatami, so I would recommend those.
If you decide to stay here, I highly recommend walking over to an Italian restaurant called Covo, the food there is so good!

Hilton Fukuoka Sea Hawk
Sleeps: Up to 5
Best for: Families wanting a full-service hotel near Fukuoka’s seaside attractions
Nearest station: Tojinmachi or Nishijin Station, around 15-20 minutes on foot
Nearest bus stop: Hilton Fukuoka Sea Hawk Hotel-Mae, around 2 minutes on foot
To Hakata Station: About 30 minutes by bus, or 15 minutes by taxi
To Tenjin: About 20 minutes by bus or train, or 12 minutes by taxi
Hilton Fukuoka Sea Hawk is high on my list when it comes to hotels I would like to stay at when I visit Fukuoka again. Many rooms are sea-facing, and the hotel has a fantastic pool area. It’s also super close to attractions such as Fukuoka Tower, teamLab Forest, BOSS E・ZO, and PayPay Dome. If most of your trip will be spent around Hakata and Tenjin, though, I’d factor the daily travel time into your decision.
The Family Junior Suite accommodates up to five guests and measures approximately 62-71 square meters. It has two separate bedrooms, and an extra bed is added when the room is booked for five people.
You get plenty of space along with the services you’d expect from a large international hotel, including normal hotel housekeeping and facilities.
The nearest subway stations are around a 15-20 minute walk away. By taxi, the hotel is about 15 minutes from Hakata Station and 12 minutes from Tenjin, and buses stop right outside the hotel.
Baby cots and bed guards are available free of charge, as well as children’s slippers, toothbrushes, and nightwear.

HILLTOP RESORT FUKUOKA
Sleeps: Up to 8
Best for: Families wanting a quieter, more resort-like stay
Nearest station: Sakurazaka Station, around 15 minutes on foot
Nearest bus stop: Jochi Fukuoka Junior High and High School, around 6 minutes on foot
To Hakata Station: Around 15 minutes by taxi, 30 minutes by bus
To Tenjin: Around 10-15 minutes by taxi, 30 minutes by bus
HILLTOP RESORT FUKUOKA is another hotel that I really want to stay at on my next visit. It looks beautiful, with an onsen and stunning views, as well as a rooftop lounge. However, it’s important to note that this view comes with a price, as the hotel is a little far from the busiest parts of the city. So, if you want a place that’s super convenient when it comes to walking, this might not be it.
The benefit, though, is much larger Japanese-style accommodation than you’ll generally find downtown. The Japanese Modernism Room accommodates five people in a 46-square-meter Japanese room, with five futons used for sleeping. The Japanese-style rooms do use futons, which are on the floor, but in my experience, kids always have fun with this unique way of sleeping.
For six people, there’s a Japanese Suite, while the hotel’s largest 86-square-meter Japanese Suite accommodates up to eight guests.
Sakurazaka Station is around 15 minutes away on foot, but the bus stop is only 6 minutes away. Because the hotel is on a hill, I’d personally use a taxi if I had young children and luggage. Hakata Station is around 15 minutes away by taxi, and the hotel provides a free shuttle from Hakata Station and Yakuin Station.

Richmond Hotel Fukuoka Tenjin
This is yet another hotel that I’d like to stay at with my family. Richmond Hotel Fukuoka Tenjin is undergoing a major renovation and is scheduled to reopen on December 24, 2026, and reservations for stays from that date reopened on September 1.
The new Deluxe Family Room is 48 square meters and accommodates up to six people.
For five guests, the room is set up with three beds plus one sofa bed. For six guests, there are four beds, including two sofa beds.
There’s also an in-room washer-dryer, which is super convenient. Families can also borrow a baby cot, bed guard, diaper pail, child toilet-seat insert, and bottle sterilizing/storage case. Children’s pajamas are available, and children receive a toothbrush, slippers, and body sponge at check-in. There are also picture books that can be taken back to the room.
The hotel is only three minutes from Tenjin-Minami Station and around ten minutes from Tenjin Station, making it incredibly convenient.

BASE LAYER HOTEL FUKUOKA
Sleeps: Up to 6
Best for: Families who want a newer hotel between Hakata and Tenjin
Nearest station: Watanabe-dori Station, 7 minutes on foot
Nearest bus stop: Yanagi-bashi, around 4 minutes on foot
To Hakata Station: About 8 minutes by taxi
To Tenjin: Around 15 minutes on foot
BASE LAYER HOTEL FUKUOKA opened in April 2026, so if you want somewhere shiny and new to stay in the city, this is it.
The Family Room accommodates up to six people and measures 35 square meters, so it might be a bit of a tight squeeze.
There are two double beds and two Japanese futon mattresses; the bathroom and toilet are separate, and there are two washbasins. The room also has a microwave and a small sink area, although it isn’t a full apartment kitchen.
There’s a 24-hour laundry room in the hotel.
You’re staying between Hakata and Tenjin rather than directly in either area. Watanabe-dori Station is about seven minutes away, Yakuin Station is around ten minutes away, and Hakata Station is only about eight minutes by taxi. Tenjin is also around a 15-minute walk.
Bed guards for babies and toddlers are available free of charge, and the hotel also lists plates and cutlery among its free rental items.

Fukuoka Sunpalace Hotel & Hall
Sleeps: Up to 5
Best for: Families with younger children who are happy sleeping on futons
Nearest station: Gofukumachi Station, around 11 minutes on foot
Nearest bus stop: Kokusai Kaigijo Sun Palace, around 3 minutes on foot
To Hakata Station: Around 10-15 minutes by bus or about 10 minutes by taxi
To Tenjin: Around 10 minutes by bus
The Japanese-Style Room B accommodates up to five guests and is a nine-tatami-mat room where everyone sleeps on futons.
The bath, toilet, and washbasin are completely separate, which is a must for me when traveling (I’ve been spoiled by living in Japan).
The location isn’t as central as Nakasu or Tenjin, but both Hakata and Tenjin are around ten minutes away by bus.
It’s also only about an eight-minute walk from Bayside Place Hakata, which is a shopping mall, and less than 10 minutes on foot from Hakata Port Tower and Hakata Pier.
They offer a ton of baby and toddler amenities. In fact, the hotel will provide up to five disposable diapers per baby or toddler per night for free! Families can also borrow children’s potty rings, high-low reclining chairs, baby chairs, and a children’s step stool. Children’s toothbrushes and body sponges are available as well, along with a child-sized bathrobe. Some family plans also include baby wipes and diaper-disposal bags.
The Residential Suites Fukuoka
Sleeps: Up to 6
Best for: Families visiting the Momochi area or wanting a genuinely huge hotel room
Nearest station: Nishijin Station, about 10 minutes on foot
Nearest bus stop: Ishi Kaikan and Soft Research Park, around 6 minutes on foot
To Hakata Station: Around 30-40 minutes by public transport (13 min by taxi)
To Tenjin: Around 20 minutes by public transport, 11 min by taxi
If room size is important to your family (I know it is for mine), The Residential Suites Fukuoka has some extremely spacious family rooms.
The Family Room A is 82 square meters and accommodates up to six people. It has four single beds and a sofa bed. For five people, Family Rooms B and C at 67 and 61 square meters would be a good option.
All of the family rooms have a mini kitchen, microwave, and washing machine, as well as bathrooms with separate washing areas.
Nishijin Station is around ten minutes away on foot. The subway ride from Hakata to Nishijin takes about 13 minutes, while Tenjin to Nishijin takes around eight minutes.
If most of your sightseeing is around Fukuoka Tower, Momochi Seaside Park, BOSS E・ZO FUKUOKA, teamLab Forest, or PayPay Dome, you’ll already be staying near those attractions.
There is also a special Baby & Kids Room with a 240-cm-wide bed, baby bath, toddler toilet seat, picture books, washing machine, and kitchenette. The baby bath and toddler toilet seat are specifically listed for the Baby & Kids Room, so I would ask to see if you can include them with the regular Family Rooms.
Which Fukuoka Hotel Would I Choose for a Family of 5 or More?
For a family of five that wants to stay very centrally and within walking distance of plenty of restaurants, I’d check Richmond Hotel Fukuoka Tenjin or HOTEL All Stay Hakata Kukodori.
For a family of six, I’d consider BASE LAYER, which has a conventional hotel setup and newer rooms, while HOTEL All Stay Hakata Kukodori gives you an apartment-style stay with a kitchen and washing machine, but is unmanned.
If I were traveling with a baby, I’d stay at Hilton Fukuoka Sea Hawk because it provides cribs. Hilton is also an international brand, so it is consistent when it comes to high-quality stays. My friend’s husband worked at Hilton in Japan, and although he’s now in another industry, their young family still always stays at Hilton hotels when traveling in the country.
And if most of your plans are around Fukuoka Tower, teamLab Forest, BOSS E・ZO, PayPay Dome, or Momochi, I’d look at The Residential Suites Fukuoka and Hilton Fukuoka Sea Hawk rather than automatically booking somewhere around Hakata.
