I visit Universal Studios Japan about once a month, so I thought I would share the best hotels near the park and which ones I would recommend for different types of travelers.
You do not necessarily need to stay near Universal Studios Japan (USJ). Both Umeda and Namba are less than a 30-minute train ride away, and there is even a direct bus between Dotonbori and the park.
However, staying close to USJ means you can avoid crowded trains at the beginning and end of a long park day. Although I live in Osaka, my daughter always asks if we can stay at one of the USJ hotels, and I do not blame her!
One thing to keep in mind is that regular Studio Passes do not allow re-entry. Once you leave the park, you cannot go back inside using the same ticket. Unfortunately, this means you cannot return to your hotel in the middle of the day to let your children rest and then come back later.
Below, I have compared the hotels closest to Universal Studios Japan, including the best options for families, themed rooms, hot springs, spacious rooms, and the shortest walk to the entrance.
Note that I have not personally stayed at every hotel on this list. However, I visit the USJ regularly, and several of these hotels have been recommended to me by family and friends who stayed there with children. I have also compared their locations, room types, facilities, and family-friendly features.
- Closest hotel to USJ: The Park Front Hotel
- Best for Minion fans: Hotel Universal Port
- Best for Sesame Street-themed rooms: Hotel Kintetsu Universal City
- Best for groups of up to eight: Oriental Hotel Universal City
- Best for six people staying in one room: Hotel Keihan Universal Tower
- Best hotel with an onsen: Hotel Keihan Universal Tower
- Best hotel with a free public bath and sauna: The Singulari Hotel
- Best hotel connected to the station: The Singulari Hotel
